That’s why, when games boast of their dynamic weather, our first thought is: rain. It doesn’t mean “this game has the potential to produce snow” or “there’s a virtual hurricane a’comin’” – few games have ever taken dynamic weather to its extreme – it’s usually just another way of saying “watch out chaps, looks like it’s about to tip it down.”

When one looks back on Epic Games’ first Gears of War which released in 2006, it isn’t hard to see how the game changed the way we look at third person shooters. Granted, not all of its mechanics were completely original – it’s often been cited by designer Cliff Bleszinski has a mash of Resident Evil 4’s over-the-shoulder aiming and Kill Switch’s cover system – but it was the overall result which paved the way for games with cover mechanics.

Ever since Metal Gear Solid 5 was announced back in 2012, Hideo Kojima made it clear that he is handling mature, dark and taboo themes in The Phantom Pain. These dark themes were strongly touched upon in Ground Zeroes, the prologue to The Phantom Pain. This resulted into a bit of controversy which led many to believe that Kojima will tone them down in The Phantom Pain.

If there is one thing we don’t know much about Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain, it’s the boss battles. Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater arguably had the boss fights in the series. So will the boss fights in The Phantom Pain surpass the ones we fought in Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater? Konami’s Robert Allen Peeler believes that the boss fights in The Phantom Pain will be one of the best in the series.

As usual IO Interactive is hoping to grant the player freedom of approach, and in the video you’ll see plenty of nods to the stealth and disguise gameplay we know and love. Let’s hope it’s all a bit less A to B than Absolution, eh? Hitman, which has no subtitle, launches for PC, PS4 and Xbox One on December 8, although content will continue rolling out for several months after launch.
